If there is one bull in recent times that has had a profound effect on the Kaharau herd, then it is Class. His perfect phenotype and structure is still coming through in our current cow herd today, it is easy to see and we can pick Class dams in the yards.
Class was part of Cohort 2 of the Australian Sire Benchmarking Programme. The measured results of Kaharau Class 790’s progeny, compared to the progeny of the bulls in his contemporary group, show that his eye muscle area ( EMA ) EBV went from +2.2 to +7.5 which is in the top 10 % of the breed and his retail beef yield ( RBY ) EBV went from +0.1 to +2, in the top 1 % of the breed. With the large influence that Class has had on our herd, we are very pleased that these results have made a difference to our overall herd EBVs.
In his retirement, Class was Colins’ pet at Puketona who he visited almost daily. Class who lived until the grand old age of 13 years old until 2017, still had perfect feet !
